This month marks the 10th anniversary of the first rail shipment of radioactive tailings from the “Pile” near the banks of the Colorado River – North Wind Portage has been DOE’s prime contractor for 7.5 of those 10 years and has safely removed and placed over 7 million tons in an engineered repository 30 miles away.
In February, DOE and »¨½·Ö±²¥ Portage began an accelerated schedule of removal, doubling weekly train shipments to Crescent Junction, where the disposal cell is located.
