CLARINGTON, ONT. — Set to open in 2026, construction for phase one of the new South Bowmanville Recreation Centre is now underway.
The former Bowmanville Indoor Soccer Centre is being transformed into a multi-sport facility.
The first phase will feature:
- A FIFA-sized multi-sport dome with an indoor walking track.
- Two FIBA-sized basketball courts adaptable for net sports like pickleball, tennis and volleyball.
- A refrigerated outdoor skating trail designed for year-round events like summer markets.
- Multi-purpose rooms.
- The current lacrosse bowl will remain onsite.
Construction includes site improvements including landscaping enhancements, a new road and an updated intersection on Baseline Road. Access to Clarington Fields will remain open throughout construction, with parking and entry available via Green Road, states a release.

Phase two, which isn’t anticipated for some years, is slated to have an outdoor splash pad and playground; an aquatics centre with a 25-metre main pool, a warm water pool, and large viewing areas, designed for lane and public swimming, swimming lessons, and aquafit classes; more multi-purpose rooms; a variety of change areas; lifeguard and staff spaces; large on-deck storage and staff change facilities.
